Green River Baby

We had our first major family adventure vacation a couple weeks ago. We spent a week canoeing 54 miles through Canyonlands National Park on the Green River in southern Utah. It was awesome--not without it's challenges for a 10 month old--but overall we all had a great time.

Our friend Simona organized it--she had beed on this placid streatch of river before. There were eight adults and four kids split among six canoes (the canoes were rigged in pairs as catamarans with a platform in the middle). Here are a few pictures.

Milo in the Sunshine State

Ben had to go Florida for work, so Julie and Milo came along and we took a little mini-vacation over 4th of July. We had a lot of fun. Milo got in the ocean for the first time, which was a little scary at first, but fun once he got used to it. We saw alligators, giant grasshoppers, new birds, and afternoon thundershowers.

Milo saw his first fireworks at the 4th of July party hosted by Ben's CEO. We were staying in Boca Raton, north of Miami, but one day we drove over to the gulf coast and visited with Julie's aunt Shelly and uncle Jeff who were on vacation there.

All tuckered out at the hotel

It's not the heat that gets to you, it's the humidity.

Big bugs

Boca has a great whole foods. Milo loves riding in the cart.

On the home front, we had a fun weekend house sitting in Santa Cruz for Nick and Kendra. Summer means kiddie pools and hanging out on the deck with T&E.

Nick and Kendra's great new deck.

Milo Pics

Sorry folks, we've been a little remiss in our blogging duties. Life in Miloland is good--each day he's bigger, happier, and stronger.

Anyway, here are a few pics from the last couple months.

Obama Baby!

The last couple of weeks have been historic for baby Milo, too! He participated in his first presidential inauguration and became the Secretary for the Baby Affairs Department. He's a little sleepy in this picture. We got up early to see the inauguration with friends.

Last week Milo had his first vaccine shots & got his birth certificate. He did well with his shots - we altered the vaccine schedule a bit with his pediatrician, Dr. Gray, so that his shots will be spread out a bit. She also helped us to eliminate one or two that she didn't think were necessary at this time. He only cried a bit and was a hint sleepier than usual the next day. Even though there were only three little shots, it made me want to hold him all day long!

In recent days Milo has become very talkative & even more expressive. He loves his new crazy mobile (video is below). And, we have started experimenting with the EC (elimination communication) Method and have surprised ourselves by catching several poos and pees in the toilet. Who knew!

Now that he can hold his head up & face outward, he has started to enjoy going on walks in the Bjorn - which is a big change! He used to cry loudly every time we tried to put him in the Bjorn. Since the weather has been gorgeous, we've been on lots of walks and a couple of hikes. Our sunset walk out at Point Pinole was beautiful. We went with Tim, Eliza and upstairs baby (Caleb) & spotted a Great Horned Owl on our way home. Ben and I took another hike at Sibley Volcanic Park for a picnic which had much to be desired. Milo was uncomfortable with all of the wind in his face & had the BIGGEST blow out ever. It was impossible to clean up with the limited number of wipes we packed. He hated the prickly grass (even though he was on a blanket) and being naked in the wind. Brrrr. Good thing he only remembers things for a few weeks at this time. We want him to love hiking and being outside with us!

The Two Handsome Men of 2924 Fulton Street!

Not a picture of Milo... but kiwi's are cute, too. These came from our garden and needed to be eaten. So I made the yummy cheese cake from the Moosewood cookbook.

Bath time! We've started to give Milo a bath every other day or so as part of his nighttime "routine." Don't worry - we treat that soft soft baby skin really well. He loves it!

Milo and his friend June (about 3 1/2 weeks younger). One day they will recognize and notice one another. Right now being side-by-side is good enough.

Stayed tuned for more Milo updates!

2 Months!

This blog entry is long overdue. It is hard to believe that Milo is 2 months old already! So many changes have happened in these first two months. Milo smiles & squeals, knows our faces and voices, has out grown many of his clothes, and has celebrated his first Christmas with his whole family. He is becoming a professional at sucking his fingers and sometimes his entire fist. He loves to suck on our pinky fingers & and his fist. He is still a little and new baby, but sometimes I feel that I have known him for a very long time.

Milo had his first art lesson this month with his Grandma KK & Auntie Donna. We stamped his feet we could have a record of how little they are and see how fast they grow. Once we got started it was hard to stop.
Milo and his circle of friends (clockwise from the bottom: Milo, Kate, Dexter & June)!
DJ Milo and Ben (headphones are a gift from Sarah & James toprotect his little ears when we go to loud venues).
Milo meets Grandma Margot (my mom) for the first time. He also met Grandpa Mike (my dad) and Uncle Mark (my brother).
Here is a video of Milo at 9 weeks of him sticking out his tongue - a new trick. I took several more videos of him.. playing with rattle & generally being cute - but it takes TOO LONG to upload them. Perhaps I'll add them to Flikr & you can see them there.

Ben and I have grown as parents in these past 2 months. We are more confident and comfortable. We can change diapers in a snap on the table, on the floor, or even in the car. We traveled as far as Santa Cruz to see and celebrate the new home and land that Kendra & Nick bought around Christmas time. We regularly try to go on hikes & show Milo the ocean and trees. Cheers for the New Year and for all of the changes that it will bring (for Milo and for our world)!
